Need To Know Tips

November 24, 2011

In  lieu of the traditional blog format I decided to switch things up a little and run with an idea I did on our twitter feed last week. Listed below are 10 short insights that will help your band have a clearer, more realistic understanding of the workings of the industry. There are many more than ten tips so believe me when I say these are only the tips of the proverbial iceberg.

#1. Don’t Suck. Seriously! Don’t ask what your friends think of your music ask someone who’s been around the scene for honest critiques.

#2. Don’t be defensive and listen to constructive criticisms. You need to face the fact that your band isn’t as good as you think it is.

#3. NO ONE OWES YOU SHIT! Seriously, they don’t so stop acting like they do.

#4. You need to prove your worth to anyone you want to work with (not the other way around – see #3 for more instructions).

#5. Show up on time and don’t be a dick. This might seem easy but trust me… most bands can’t grasp this simple tip.

#6. Stop bitching about other bands success! Whether you are more musically proficient than them is irrelevant. [Hard work > Bitching].

#7. Accept the fact that you will likely never make “IT”. Don’t be like those who play the lotto & hope their ship will come. Take Action!

#8. Set attainable goals and update your goals on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.

#9. Learn the difference between confidence and cockiness. The quicker you learn this, the better for everyone.

#10. Define success on your own terms, not on anyone else’s (especially record labels and those old industry types)
